2026 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC: 375 hp Inline-Six, 7,700 lb Towing, and a Refined Family SUV for Summer

There’s a specific kind of SUV that families look for once the weather turns warm: enough power to merge onto a busy highway with a full car, enough space for the whole crew and their gear, and enough towing capacity to bring a boat or trailer along without a second vehicle. The 2026 GLE 450 4MATIC checks each box with a 375-hp inline-six engine and a cabin built for up to seven.

It’s a family SUV that doesn’t ask anyone to compromise, whether that’s the driver who wants a genuinely quick engine or the passengers who want a comfortable seat for the ride.

A 375-hp Inline-Six Built for Confident Highway Driving

The GLE 450 4MATIC pairs a 3.0L inline-6 turbo engine with a mild hybrid system, producing 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on its own, with the lightweight, beltless engine electrified by an Integrated Starter-Generator that can add up to 20 hp for gas-free coasting and energy recapture during deceleration. A twin-scroll turbo, CAMTRONIC variable valve lift, and friction-reducing NANOSLIDE cylinder walls help the engine deliver smooth, efficient response even under load. Power reaches the road through a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission and standard 4MATIC fully variable all-wheel drive, which can shift torque distribution between the front and rear axles as conditions change.

Room for the Whole Family and Their Gear

Five-passenger seating is standard, with a third row available to bring capacity up to seven. The second row folds in a 40/20/40 split and can be power-adjusted, with an EASY-ENTRY feature that slides the seats forward to ease access to the back row. Cargo space ranges from 630 L with the seats in place to 2,055 L with them folded down.

  • 5-passenger seating standard, 7-passenger capacity available
  • Power-adjustable, 40/20/40-split second-row seats
  • 630 L to 2,055 L of cargo space depending on configuration
  • Aluminum roof rails for additional gear-carrying options

Towing Capacity That Keeps the Boat or Trailer Coming Along

Equipped with the optional trailer hitch, the GLE 450 4MATIC can tow up to 7,700 lbs (3,500 kg), with standard Trailer Stability Assist monitoring for trailer sway and helping keep the vehicle and trailer stable at highway speed. That kind of capacity means a boat trailer, camper, or loaded utility trailer doesn’t have to wait for a different vehicle.

A Refined Cabin for Long Drives

Inside, a 4-wheel independent suspension with selective damping automatically adjusts to road surface and driving style, while DYNAMIC SELECT offers ECO, Comfort, Sport, and Off-Road modes plus a customizable Individual setting. Standard safety features include PRE-SAFE, which can tighten front seat belts and close windows ahead of a detected collision, and Active Brake Assist, which uses radar to help prevent or reduce the severity of a collision with a vehicle or pedestrian ahead.
